"I refused to accept my fate and started bodybuilding in 2005."
Sham Singh Shera was diagnosed with polio, with no scope of improvement in the functioning of his leg. His reaction was to stop thinking of this as a weakness and focus on achieving the glory and self-confidence he had always dreamed of, regardless of any disability. He spent two years learning wrestling and then switched to bodybuilding.
"I always wanted to feel good about myself and my life but with a crooked leg, there was little scope of that. Thus, I took up bodybuilding as my ultimate passion."
"My strongest asset is my leg, because I believe if I hadn't been challenged by life, I might have ended up being ordinary like millions of others out there."
The challenges have never stopped for Sham Singh. He used to cycle 10 kms every day to reach his gym, through all kinds of weather and terrain. The only time he stopped was when he met with an accident that put him on bed rest for 7 months.
"My body grew frail and my face was distorted from the accident. I used to sob every time I looked in the mirror. But my wife became my support system and helped me get back on track with winning over life all over again."
Sham Singh's aim is to inspire and help people who let the challenges of life get the better of them. He believes in creating his own destiny, having goals and working seriously towards achieving them.
"I rarely pay attention to what people say, as at times it can be really hurtful. I believe I am doing it better than them, even while being differently abled. My life is too interesting and busy to pay attention to what others say."
"My Zidd convinces me that I can go over the limits to live my dream and passion."
